The FIS Masters World Criterium planned for March 23rd to 28th in Göstling an der Ybbs (Hochkar, NÖ) has been cancelled due to the corona epidemic. This was announced by the Austrian Ski Federation today.

The organizing association SC Göstling-Hochkar had expected about 600 athletes from about 30 nations. The Masters Ski World Championships would have been the biggest ski sport event in Lower Austria in 2020.

Below, we present the statement from SC Göstling-Hochkar:

Dear Masters athletes, dear partners, dear officials and helpers of the Göstling-Hochkar Ski Club!

Unfortunately, the corona virus has indeed proven to be very powerful and has now also thwarted the Masters Ski World Championships in Göstling-Hochkar, which are scheduled to take place from 23 to 28 March 2020. Therefore, the World Championships have unfortunately to be cancelled on the instructions of the ÖSV and will therefore not take place.

The Organising Committee of the Ski Club Göstling-Hochkar for the Masters Ski World Championships thanks all sponsors, partners, officials, helpers as well as the accommodation facilities for their excellent support.

With the request for understanding,
Robert Fahrnberger
Obmann Schiclub Göstling-Hochkar und Organisationsleiter der Masters WM 2020

Here is the text of the ÖSV about the notice of cancellation:

Following the guidelines of the Austrian Federal Government, the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) has decided not to hold any major international events in the near future and has therefore decided to cancel the following competitions.

Affected by this cancellation are the FIS Masters World Criterium 2020 planned from March 23rd to 28th at Hochkar/NÖ, the FIS Junior World Championships Snowboard/Freestyle 2020 in Lachtal/Styria from March 27th to April 1st, the FIS European Cup Alpine Final from March 16th to 22nd, the FIS World Championships Snowboard/Freestyle 2020 in Lachtal/Styria from March 27th to April 1st and the FIS European Cup Alpine Final from March 16th to 22nd. March in Saalbach/Salzburg and Reiteralm/Styria as well as the FIS European Cup competitions Skicross on 28/29 March and Snowboardcross on 14-15 March, also Reiteralm/Styria, and the Alpine Cup Finals Ski Jump/Nordic Combination in Eisenerz/Styria from 13-15 March.

With this measure, the ÖSV complies with the current guidelines and is convinced that it also acts in the interest of sport and health. For the time being, all other national and international competitions can be held as planned, subject to updated guidelines.

Furthermore, the ÖSV will evaluate upcoming mass sports and youth events and will also cancel them if they are not compatible with the then valid regulations.
